"Well, somewhat." Daveren said to the woman by the door. "I think that perhaps this place is somewhere that's interconnected between worlds or dimensions. A gateway, if you like. And perhaps from time to time, people, like you or I, stumble through it."
He frowned and glanced at the clouds outside again. "Although, i've been refinining that to include the conditions. And whatever they are, they seem to be right." He said.
Daveren glanced around the room again, just to be sure. "The funny thing is, aside from myself and seemingly Romana, none of you actually did anything to be caught up in it."

Oryn looked up from the floor to meet Zeke's eyes. "I'm Oryn. I am from...Astarai, originally." He examined the man more closely, deciding that he wasn't likely to be left alone. "And you?" he questioned, inwardly shirking from the prospect of conversation. At least they hadn't put him in chains for anything. Yet.

"Never heard of it. But geography's not really my strong suit, y'know? I'm more of a science and math person. And computers. I'm good at computers too. Anyway, I'm from Alabama. 'Cept I haven't lived there in a long time. But I haven't really lived in any one place since then. I end up needing to travel too much." He shrugged casually and then sat down on the floor next to Oryn. A second later he stood up again to grab a handful of pixie sticks from nearby, only to sit down again. "Want one?" he asked, setting them down in front of him. He picked up a green one and tore it open with his teeth, pouring the contents into his mouth.

Oryn shook his head slowly, trying to listen to what Daveren was saying across the room. He turned to Zeke. "How did you get here?"
He wasn't particularly surprised to have found himself in this place--things like this had happened to him before--but other people being sucked into a place like this without doing anything piqued his interest.

"What do you mean how'd I get here? I walked through the front door. I hadn't really thought much about it to be honest though. Everyone else might seem pretty weirded out by this place, but I don't really mind too much. There are definitely worse places we could all be." He shrugged calmly and picked up another of the pixie sticks. He opened this one the same way he opened the last one and again dumped the sugar powder into his mouth.

"Never mind," Oryn muttered, his brow furrowing. Daveren seemed to know the most of anybody here, but he appeared to be preoccupied speaking to a group of people nearer to the door; and Oryn doubted he'd be able to get much out of Zeke.
A blast of frozen wind jolted him from his thoughts and he looked over at the door, which was swinging on its hinges, still open. "Bit cold in here," he commented quietly.

"You're the one that left the door open," Zeke pointed out. "But I'm warm enough. Always am." He was quiet for a moment, but only briefly before he suddenly grinned and started talking again. "Actually, I just remembered something. Before I came here I was sleeping. But then there was this bright light, and I looked up and this great spaceship was hovering above me! And suddenly I got pulled up into it by this blue beam thing. And there were these bug-eyed green men, and they must have brought me here." He chuckled a bit at the tale of alien abduction he'd made up. Oryn wanted something more interesting, there it was. It just wasn't true at all.

"I see," Oryn replied, noting the gleam in Zeke's eye that indicated the man was likely lying. One didn't survive long in Oryn's profession without learning to spot an untruth. He dropped the subject. Somebody else would probably give him a more useful recounting of events.
"Would anyone protest, then, if I closed the door?" he asked after a pause, knowing full well that they probably would.

A young man with silver hair and golden skin walks in. He glares around at everyone before sitting down in a corner by himself.

Oryn surveyed the newcomer warily, then glanced at Zeke. "You could go talk to him," Oryn suggested, hoping that Zeke would leave him alone now that there was another newcomer to speak to.

Zeke sighed lightly at Oryn's short response. "You don't say very much, do you? But I don't care if you close the door. I'm not really that worried, not like everyone else seems to be... Anyway, what do you do? Like, for a job and all?" he asked curiously.

Oryn stiffened slightly at the question. "I'm...currently unemployed," he said finally, hoping that Zeke would go talk to the man across the room or at least talk about anything other than his profession. Former profession, anyways.

"That's a bummer, being unemployed and all. Well, unless it's deliberate I guess. But even then, I'd think it'd get boring. I know I'd get bored anyway," Zeke said, oblivious to Oryn's discomfort at the question. "So what did you used to do? Before the unemployment and all? Was it anything interesting? That's a silly question, of course it would have been to you or why would you do it?"

"I was a...freelancer, of sorts," Oryn responded, hoping that response would be enough to satisfy the curious Zeke.
Before the other could reply, he pushed back his chair and stood, walking to the back of the shop and disappearing into the storage room. Maybe no one would bother him in there.

The man turns and glares at the noise coming from the storage room door slamming. He then turns back and grumbles to himself. It sounds like, "Stupid of me to be here."

Daveren moved to the window and then slowly, holding his breath, stuck his hand through it. Once again, the glass moved as though parting for his arm to pass through it.
He frowned then, and blinked rapidly, as if trying to process something in his brain. Then he rather quickly jumped through the large window front, closed the door from the other side, and hopped back in again.
"Invigorating." Daveren said, smiling widely. Then his hand reached up to touch his hair, which appeared to be standing on end.
"Oh dear." He said.

Amelia blinked, bringing herself out of her thoughts. She still had a cargo-hold full of merchandise for customers that you did not want to be on the wrong side of...
That wasn't important now. She would get it later. When she wasn't distracted by a man with golden skin.
Before she could stop herself, she blurted out, "Did you dye your skin?"
It wasn't that odd of a question. She had heard some nobles did it...

"A freelancer in what though? That doesn't answer anything. I'm a freelancer. That doesn't mean anything. And hey... Where are you going? I don't think you're allowed back there..." Oryn was already gone though. Zeke stared after where he'd gone and let out a sigh. He tore open all of the remaining pixie sticks and dumped them all into his mouth at once before standing up and looking around for something or someone else to entertain him. His eyes quickly landed on a gold-skinned and silver-haired man who'd managed to enter without Zeke's noticing. His eyes widened a little and he trotted over with a curious look on his face. "Hey there! You're awfully weird looking, did you know that?"

The man turns and glares first at Amelia then at Zeke. "No. It just comes this way." He turns back around, not wanting to say anything else.

"I'm pretty sure being naturally like that is even weirder than if you dyed it," Zeke responded matter-of-factly. He chuckled a little and then went on, "So what's your name, huh? Mine's Ezekiel Zachariah Alexander Montgomery, but I go by Zeke for short. Although, actually, I'm getting kind of bored of Zeke, so I think I'll go by Xander now instead. Yeah, Xander's cool, you can call me that."

Amelia raised her eyebrows. "You're more riled up than a pigeon plucker in a snoozing ken, aren't you?" She crouched down, casting a look at the man that had gone outside and come back in. Great. So this place had magic. "So does everyone have a name or do I just give you all one?"

His silver hair nearly puffed out as the man turned his head again. "He speaks a lot. I didn't sign up for this." He grumbles at no one in particular. He then stands and glares again. "Gage. I'm stuck this way until She is happy." He waves his hand to indicate some unknown force.

"Call me Daveren." Daveren says, smoothing down his hair and frowning at the clouds. "Or whatever. Whatever might be a little confusing though."

Zeke snickered a bit at Amelia's comment about a 'pigeon plucker' and then refocused on the man, apparently named Gage. "You don't make much sense you know. Stuck what way? Gold? And who's 'she?' If you don't want to be Gold I can change that for you. I can do stuff like that pretty easily. It's not exactly the best use of my gift, but it can be fun. There's not much else here that's a better use of my gift anyway."

Amelia snorted. "Last I checked, stranger, none of us signed up for this." She shrugged out of her jacket. "Who is this mysterious 'She'?"
Her eyes flicked to Daveren, nodding as an acknowledgement. "So how did you all get stuck here? You know my story."
A smirk flashed across her face for a moment.
They knew part of it, anyway.

Gage looks at Zeke for a second. He tries to make sense of the questions and then just sighs focusing on the parts he can. "I made someone upset. They made it so I couldn't change back until I make up for it. Any ideas on that? And don't change my skin color... I don't want to turn into a frog or anything." He glances at Zeke for a moment again, trying to assess the boy's talent before he shrugs.

Daveren points at the ornately carved box on the counter. "Box, gateway, whatever. Actually, the counter and chair are part of my rooms at home, but they seem to have blended easily with this shop." He taps his lip thoughtfully. "Perhaps I should have sold sweets instead."

Gage stares at box for a moment. "gateway?" He smiled to himself and bolts for it. His head slams into the wall though, instead of flowing smoothly through like he expected.

"Why does everyone assume we're all stuck? And unwilling?" Xander asked Amelia with a slightly exasperated roll of his eyes. "I'm pretty content with the situation actually. Plenty of candy and plenty of interesting stuff going on." He then looked back at Gage with a curious frown. "Well what'd you do to upset 'em? Whoever they are... And how the heck would I turn you into a frog? That doesn't even make sense. Your skin would never even really change, it's all just a trick of the light. Literally. See, I can manipulate light waves. Change what frequency of light reflects off of your skin and it'd change what color it'd look like. Watch." With that he made a slight hand motion and Gage's golden skin suddenly appeared as blue instead. Another twitch of his fingers and it was red, and then lime green. He grinned a bit at Gage and watched for his reaction.

Amelia focused her eyes on the box. Enchantment? She could feel her stomach flip. "What are you?"
